During Autumn 2003 ADS users may observe a few changes to our badging. Our parent body, the Arts and Humanities Data Service (AHDS), is being relaunched on October 10th with a new web site. The distributed subject centres are to be renamed AHDS Archaeology, AHDS History, AHDS Literature Languages and Linguistics, AHDS Performing Arts, and AHDS Visual Arts, reflecting that we are all part of the arts and humanities community. Our activities for the higher education community which carry AHRB and JISC support will henceforth be done under the label AHDS Archaeology.
However, it is recognised that the Archaeology Data Service also serves a wider community. ADS has gained strong support outside the education sector, winning external project funding, and establishing its own identity. ADS will therefore continue to exist, and will host the activities of AHDS Archaeology. None of this will actually make any difference to the service received by any users, but many will have come across the importance of badging to funding bodies, and hopefully will be sympathetic whilst we make these subtle changes.
