The value of archaeological archives available online is clear if a researcher has a particular interest in a site or a dataset. But using the resources as an educational resource broadens the value of the archives further. The Archaeology Data Service (ADS)is currently developing online teaching and learning materials in the United Kingdom through the PATOIS project - Publications and Archives in Teaching: Online Information Sources. This project has developed three teaching packs on different aspects of data sets available through the ADS. These packages have been developed as educational resources for university students and lecturers but they also make an excellent introduction to the potential and value of online archives.
