Archaeological Records of Europe - Networked Access |
| ARENA Home Page | Aims and Objectives | |
Some of the ARENA project partners already have experience in the use of intuitive interfaces to archaeological cultural data for academic, professional and public audiences. All of the partners will be able to benefit from the use of such technologies particularly map-based searching and clickable maps as will those who use the data presented by ARENA.
ARENA will also contribute to the development of interoperable digital archiving. This will be achieved by investigating mechanisms for archival transfers between partners, but will also seek to develop interoperability such that, for example, the distributed archives relating to any regions can be located by cross-searching several catalogues. An example of this kind of portal at the national level can be found at the Historic Environmental Information Resources Portal (HEIRPORT).
The partners will develop existing expertise in map-based searching for archaeological information, and will open this out for public use. They will investigate and implement technologies for interoperable map-based searching.
The content of this project does not necessarily reflect the position of the European Community, nor does it involve any responsibility on the part of the European Community.
